The Interior Design Program at The Art Institute of Philadelphia Receives 6-Year CIDA Accreditation

The Art Institute of Philadelphia is proud to announce that the Bachelor of Science program in Interior Design has been awarded a six-year accreditation by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). This prestigious recognition culminates several years of preparation by the college, and included rigorous assessment and evaluation, giving consideration to the high standards of CIDA.
CIDA site evaluators visited the Philadelphia campus in April of 2010, and conducted an intense examination of all aspects of the program. CIDA measured the performance of The Art Institute of Philadelphia’s Interior Design program against their new 2009 standards. Under the leadership of academic director Donna Weaverling Daley, The Art Institute of Philadelphia complied with all of CIDA’s standards.
"Council for Interior Design Accreditation gives peer confirmation that our program is a valuable educational experience in preparing entry level professionals," said Daley. "Our entire department, faculty and students alike, along with the administration, are proud to share in this accomplishment."

The Interior Design bachelor of science degree program at The Art Institute of Philadelphia is now one of only seven CIDA accredited programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Through a process of program self-evaluation and peer review, accreditation promotes achievement of high academic standards, while making education more responsive to student and societal needs. CIDA engages nearly 200 volunteers, all drawn from interior design practice and education, to carry out its work. More than 150 interior design programs are currently accredited by CIDA, serving an estimated 20,000 students.
The Council for Interior Design Accreditation is an independent, non-profit accrediting organization for interior design education programs at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. For more than 35 years, this knowledge-driven organization has been passionately committed to the ongoing enrichment of the interior design profession through identifying, developing and promoting quality standards for the education of entry-level interior designers, and then encouraging, accrediting and supporting educational programs to aspire to those standards.
The professional standards set forth by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation are used to evaluate interior design programs that prepare students for entry-level interior design practice and position them for future professional growth. CIDA is firmly committed to setting high standards for interior design education, challenging others to meet and exceed those standards and seeking ways to continuously elevate and evolve the standards, thus significantly contributing to the advanced professionalism of the interior design field.
The Council for Interior Design Accreditation is recognized as a reliable authority on interior design education by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
